Does 2048 Have an Ending?

2048 has two distinct endpoints:

The win condition

The game is won when a tile with the value 2048 first appears on the board. A congratulations screen appears. On 2048.now you can dismiss it and keep playing - Continuing toward higher tiles and a larger score.

Game over

The game truly ends when no legal moves remain: the board is completely full and no two adjacent tiles share the same value. At that point no merges are possible and no new tiles can spawn. This is the hard endpoint - There is no continue option.

Playing past 2048
